Description
An excellent opportunity within one of the UK's leading construction contractors as a Senior Cost Planner based in North West London.
The Senior Cost Planner will contribute to the securing of new business by the preparation of cost plans throughout the pre-construction period; from feasibility stage through concept and on to detailed design, and to the preparation of cost checks and commentaries on externally produced cost plans. As the Senior Cost Planner you will also play a key role in benchmarking exercises and in setting targets for the supply chain and contribute to the development of the cost database.
The key responsibilities include:
- Providing cost advice to support the identification of viable bids.
- Providing a cost planning service to support the bid process.
- Accessing all available expertise within the operational groups in preparation of cost plans and bids.
- Participate in the preparation of the tender risk register.
- Ensure that cost plan is prepared in accordance with mandatory and advisory procedures.
- Preparation of quantities for cost plans and cost models.
- Checking of externally produced quantities and rates for use in cost commentaries.
- Pricing of cost plans using analysed data from the cost database and from information supplied by the supply chain.
- Assessment of contingency to reflect completeness of design.
- Preparation of elemental and package analysis of project costs including retrieval of information from site as required.
- Preparation of benchmark data to set targets for future bids and individual packages.
- Ensure that the benchmark data is constantly refreshed with the impact of innovation.
- Understand those parts of the project that bring value to the client's business, be able to suggest alternative approaches that may enhance that value.
- Understand contractual, commercial and legal processes relating to contracts and ensures in conjunction with commercial managers that the client's position is protected.
It is expected that you will have secured a degree qualification and have gained a level of experience of the construction industry preferably in a relevant contracting environment. You must be able to demonstrate a willingness and ability to adopt a proactive position in identification of alternative approaches to improve the likelihood of a successful bid.
